Making your first moves in Ludo

Read the aim of Ludo, then make your first move. Bring all four tokens home before the other players. Use the example below to understand a decision. Read the objective before making your first input. Keep the game area visible while you use its controls.

Play with two or four people on the same device. Follow the house rules shown on the board; internet matchmaking is not available.

Give this approach a try

Take enough time to read a new position. If a game has a timer, learn its controls first rather than searching for them during the round. Keep the objective visible.

The goal to keep in mind

Bring all four tokens home before the other players. Keep that objective in view throughout the round. The example below illustrates a decision.

Making your moves

  1. Roll six to leave the yard.
  2. Move an eligible token by the die value; home requires an exact roll.
  3. Capture opponents on non-safe squares.
  4. Six, capture and finishing a token grant another roll; a third consecutive six forfeits that roll.

Your inputs

Click or tap a piece and destination; use the turn indicator and legal-move feedback. On a smaller screen, keep the active part of the board within view. A new-round button replaces the current round.

A closer look at one example

A token two steps from home cannot use a three. Focus on why the action is allowed, not only its outcome. Look for the relevant detail.

Check this before moving on

Safe squares cannot capture; blockades are not part of this edition. A different version of the game may use a different rule. Keep the stated aim separate from side details such as animation or appearance. Progress is measured by the game’s own completion or scoring rules.
